A program for the development of community language schools
Professional Support Program (CLPSP)
Community Languages Professional Support Program (CLPSP):
- CLPSP will be delivered as targeted and enhanced sector support, maintaining quality professional learning, development and training (through CLWA) for community languages schools.
- CLPSP will maintain a focus on the quality of teaching and learning in community languages schools and appropriate support services to assist in achieving quality outcomes.
- Through CLPSP, CLWA will enhance the provision of support services for community languages schools.
In line with OMI guidelines and other relevant community languages guidelines and frameworks, CLWA will provide CLPSP support services and professional development learning and training workshops/courses to ensure a best practice approach for teachers, administrators, parents and other school community members in key areas such as:
- Teaching effectively
- Engaging students in purposeful learning
- Ensuring the wellbeing of students
- Enhancing curriculum and cultural relevance
- Classroom and behavioural management
- Leading effectively and efficiently
- Developing and implementing appropriate lesson planning and teaching methodologies
- Time management
CLWA coordinate and support the teaching program requirements and professional learning, development and training, to ensure that all community languages schools meet minimum standards in the delivery of community languages programs in their schools. This will include:
- The provision of assistance and support services for, among others, teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, delivery and behavioural management;
- Where possible and as required, subject to funding availability, provide support in the target language;
- Provision of professional learning, development and training throughout the school year (semester one and semester two);
- Ensure community languages schools adhere to key teaching program requirements;
- Ensure all teachers in community languages schools complete a minimum of two professional learning, development and training workshops/courses/ sessions per school calendar year;
- Ensure all administrators complete a minimum of one professional learning, development and training workshop/course/session per school calendar year;
- Where possible and subject to funding viability, CLWA will consider individual community languages school requests for the professional development, learning and training workshops/courses/sessions.
